T he Sony TA-ZH1ES is primarily a desktop Hi-Res Audio USB DAC and headphone amp based around an FPGA chip (as used by Chord Electronics and PS Audio). The TA-ZH1ES does have an analogue input and a pre-amp out analogue output so can also be used as a pre-amp into a conventional HiFi system.

T he Sony - PS-HX500 was seen in prototype form at CES 2016 and now more details have been posted on the Sony website. The £450 PS-HX500 includes an Analogue to Digital converter so you can convert your vinyl collection to computer audio files. Nothing new here. What's currently unique about the Sony - PS-HX500 is that it can convert vinyl natively to DSD 5.6 Mhz also known as DSD128 or double DSD. Of course it can also convert vinyl to PCM up to 192 kHz 24 bit quality. You just need to connect the USB output from the PS HX500 up to a computer to capture the recording as a computer audio file.
