Audio-Technica launch the ATH-DSR9BT - digital headphones
T he Audio-Technica ATH-DSR9BT headphones are a first here on HiFi Enthusiast, a digital wireless headphone that uses a digital signal to drive the headphones directly. So the ATH-DSR9BT doesn’t need an internal DAC, just a digital signal. The digital signal can be supplied either wirelessly via Bluetooth 4.2 or via a wired USB connection. Bluetooth 4.2 can handle aptX HD and a wired USB connection Hi-Res Audio up to 24 bit 96 kHz. Audio-Technica’s technology to drive headphones digitally is known as Pure Digital Drive.

The drivers are assembled by hand in the ATH-A2000Z and include a top-quality German Permendur* magnetic circuit with significant magnetic flux density, OFC-7N bobbin-wound voice coils for ultra-efficient signal transmission, a pure iron yoke for superior transient response, and a top-mounted PCB for smoother airflow that enables precise diaphragm movement.

T he Audio-Technica AT-HA5050H (yours for £4,500 or US $5,999.00), first seen at CES2016, is both a USB DAC And a Headphone Amp. Audio-Technica describe the AT-HA5050H as a hybrid headphone amp, as the AT-HA5050H uses E88CC tubes in the preamp stage to enhance warmth of the sound quality and bipolar transistors in the power amp section driving the headphones. There's also multiple headphone outputs (arranged in Headphone A four sensitivities and Headphone B four sensitivities) so you can find the ideal match between a headphone output on the AT-HA5050H and the sensitivity of your headphones. Oh and also drive two pairs of headphones at once. To go with the retro aspect of valve amplification there's also two glowing VU meters on the front of the AT-HA5050H.

T he Audio-Technica AT-LP5 turntable (yours for £329) is a direct-drive turntable (traditionally more expensive to produce than belt driven turntables ( but then without the belt drive turntable problems of speed stability etc.)) that can playback both 33 1/3 & 45 RPM records. The AT-LP5 also offer both line level RCA phono outputs and a USB output for recording records to digital computer audio formats. The AT-LP5 has also been designed with a cast aluminium platter and thick damping mat housed together in a structure that has been engineered for minimum chassis resonance, but hiding all this within a discreet look. The J-shaped tonearm in the AT-LP5, is engineered to minimise tracking errors, and harks back to the original Audio-Technica designs of the 1960’s & 70’s, and comes fitted with Audio-Technica’s lightweight AT-HS10 head shell and the exclusive AT95Ex Dual Moving Magnet cartridge.

The closed back casing is made of teak which brings sonic benefits of enhanced warmth to the sound. The ATH-W1000Z also feature pads or 3d wings on the top of the headphones that help secure the headphones and aid comfort while listening. Bass extension is extended further in the ATH-W1000Z by D.A.D.S. (D.A.D.S. stands for Double Air Damping System).
